Waikiki Quiet
Monday August 15th. Waikiki is not so bad if you don't get into the madness of the streets and people. Its best approached in a round about way. Parking at the lot near the Hilton is mostly free and as long as you never stray more than fifty feet from the water the area is actually beautiful. I like paddle boarding a whole lot, especially in the evening. Paddling out into the deep water puts Waikiki on mute and gives the best view of Diamond Head.

Lights
Saturday August 13th - Sunday August 14th. Saturday we went to Joe's studio to play with the camera and lights. After, we stopped by the bar under the studio where there was a circus with a man hammering nails up his nose. How do you get good at something like that, and how many times do you hurt yourself in the process? Sunday we had a quiet day at Waimea.

Saltwater Lullabies
Sunday August 7th 2011. I am a public sleeper. Not only am I an infallible car sleeper, but I routinely fall asleep in movie theaters, I've dozed though a ska show under a merch table, and I've posted up by a pillar at Pearl Harbor to take a nap. The beach is an equalizer that quickly turns many into towel toting infants that curl up in the sun. I love it, so, after a stop at the farmers market, a quick lunch, and some time spent enjoying our free Volcom shave ice we headed to sunset beach where we napped. When the light turned golden we walked along the beach and then back along the street, under the shady hanging flowers. As day gave way to night we ate some dinner and then drove out to the dark to sit and watch the stars.

Maui Weekend - What I Saw
Friday July 29th - Sunday July 31st. A twenty minute flight put us into Maui on Friday night. From airport to airport the flight is one hundred and one miles and at the closest points the islands are sixty seven miles apart. On a clear day I can see the edge of Maui from Oahu and it endlessly frustrates me that the only practical option for transportation between the two is by plane: then I think about Cuba. Cuba is ninety four miles off of Key West. Cubans have a right to be frustrated, I do not.
This weekend played into my fantasies and tested my fears. Nate and Noah took us (all seven of us) into their homes in one of the most beautiful places on the island. Music brought us to Maui and music is what made the trip so good. Nick, Cody, Joe, Oliver and John - keep doing what you do, you do it very well. I want little more than to sit on a patio far away from the city and to listen to a little bluegrass and country. I love the sounds that are a byproduct of the music; the ridges of your fingers as they slide between the frets, the way you stomp the wooden ground making little bits of earth crackle, and the pings and clanks of make-shift percussion instruments. I could listen all day long.
At Charley's the bands plugged in. Minor Setback started the night, Discord and Rye set the mood, White Rose got people moving and Campfire closed down the bar. Rather than write about the details of the weekend I will show some of them as I saw them.

And some need a push

Cody is a atomic mass of energy
Throwing others into the pool is mighty tempting
